Farmgirlfit Cd’A
I currently have just one quarter left at EWU, my student teaching, and then will be certified to teach K-8 general education and K-12 special education.
I’m the girl that always had a gym membership & would spend 2 hours at the gym, while hardly breaking a sweat. After I had my daughter in 2011 I started to run to get back in shape. My dad and I tried to do at least one 5k a month which soon turned into longer runs. Eventually our whole family began training for the Windermere Marathon. Between training, school, and being a mommy, I was pretty busy. While doing an 18 mile run I couldn’t run anymore because my knee was just shot. It was probably that same week I was doing homework in a coffee shop and happened to pick up a copy of the Inlander. I came across an article on Farmgirlfit, and from what I read, thought maybe the style of training could really help me out for my upcoming marathon, so I went and checked it out.
I started off at the Spokane location coming 2 days a week, and it did help my marathon time. I eventually had to take some time off because my school schedule was too crazy. Then my husband and I moved to Coeur d’Alene. One day we drove by the Farmgirlfit Cd’A location and he suggested I look into starting up again. I hadn’t realized how much I missed Farmgirl until I walked through the doors. I signed myself up for 3 days a week, and even though just holding a barbell hurt my hands, I kept coming back.
It turns out I like Farmgirl more than running because I no longer run, but come to Farmgirl 5 days a week. Now even seeing a 1-mile run in The Grind makes me want to fake an injury. It’s been 5 months and I just love it! It’s been amazing meeting new women, watching them succeed in their fitness goals, and hearing them cheer me to mine! The coaches push me to do things that I never thought possible.
My parents. They are in their 50’s and are both currently training for the Spokane Marathon. I love going to their house and hearing what workout they did that day. I still need to get my mom to a FGF Grind though.
Doing a handstand because it was my goal from day one. I remember walking in for my very first workout and seeing girls doing handstands. I decided that one day I’d be able to do that too. With some good coaching I finally was able to do one a few months ago. Then I went home and practiced them over and over until I was sore. I was just so excited to accomplish such a long term goal!
I’ve wanted to do a triathlon for a while now, but after our recent beach workout, I realized open water swimming is harder than I thought. So that’s one goal, and in the gym I really want to improve my pull-ups…guess it’s a good time of year with Pennies for Pull-Ups right around the corner!
I really love just about anything. I love seeing a whole laundry list on the white board because I know I will only have to do each exercise one time. I also love any exercise that can be put into a 6 or 7 minute AMRAP because by the time I am tired we are almost done. It’s so nice that any movement can be adjusted for my own personal needs. If I had to choose my favorites I would say deadlifts, rope climbs, and slam balls…and the tires are pretty fun too!
Up until a few weeks ago I really didn’t have a least favorite exercise. Even things I am not great at I try to improve in…but then we did a Grind with Renegade Rows. Renegade Rows are now my one and only least favorite exercise.
Without a doubt the coaches and members. Last Friday there were 15 ladies in our Noon class, and afterwards we all just sat around and socialized. It wasn’t planned or anything we all just enjoy each other’s company. Farmgirlfit has introduced me to some of the most interesting women I’ve ever met. It is so nice to spend an hour a day with women who I might not have met otherwise. It’s so nice to workout in an environment that is so welcoming to both me and my three year old daughter.
I typically bring my three year old daughter with me when I work out. Sometimes after I’ve just finished a hard workout she will give me some extra coaching, “Mom, your pull-ups were not very good today.” Or “You need to keep practicing your rope climbs.” It helps keep me humble.
It is usually a mixture of counting, swearing, or trying to think of a fake injury to get me out of it!
Pretty much anything loud enough to drown out my grunts and heavy breathing.
Pizza….of all kinds
The 49ers (even with the horrible offseason we’ve had). I am well aware of the love the FGF owners have for our rivals, the Seahawks. A couple years ago it was said if we wore red & gold on game day we would have to do 49 burpees. Ever since that day I train a little bit harder to prepare for the day I can do my 49 burpees in full red & gold 49er gear, complete with my Kaepernick socks! :)
My husband. He is a Marine Corps veteran and Firefighter in Post Falls. He has a drive that’s allowed him to accomplish so much already.
I read this recently, really liked it, and found it applicable for the Grind:
Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired. When you were younger the mind could make you dance all night, and the body was never tired...You've always got to make the mind take over and keep going.
With all of the breaks I’ve taken I feel like I’ve been a new member many times. My advice: just keep coming & don’t take breaks HAHA!! It can be intimidating to try something new but have faith in your abilities. Really learn to trust the coaches because they can see progress in you that you may not see yourself. Also take advantage of all the extra classes/events offered. I used to never go and probably missed out on a lot of fun conversations and good information.
